Offline dictation keyboard for iPhone

Codictate adds a Dictate button to your iPhone keyboard. Tap it, speak, and the text goes into whatever you are typing. The speech model runs on the phone, so your audio never leaves it.

How it works

  1. Install Codictate from the App Store. It is free, with no in-app purchases.
  2. Add the Codictate keyboard in iOS Settings.
  3. In any app that takes text, switch to the Codictate keyboard and tap Dictate.
  4. Speak. The transcript is inserted into the text field you were in.

Parakeet TDT v3 on the Neural Engine

The default engine is NVIDIA's Parakeet TDT v3, running on the iPhone's Neural Engine. It is the same model family Codictate uses for fast dictation on the Mac, and it covers 25 European languages. It is about a 500 MB download.

A quantized Whisper Base model runs on the CPU as a fallback. It is 57 MB and multilingual.

Our benchmarks measure Parakeet in the Mac app, not on an iPhone, so read them as the model's accuracy rather than a phone measurement.

No internet, no account, no analytics

Everything runs on the device. Audio is never uploaded, there is no account to make, and the app has no server, analytics or telemetry. Once the model is on the phone, dictation works without a connection.

Requirements

An iPhone on iOS 17.0 or later. Parakeet needs the Neural Engine of an Apple silicon iPhone. Plan for about 500 MB of storage for Parakeet, or 57 MB for Whisper Base.

On a Mac or PC too

The desktop app works the same way on Mac and Windows: press a shortcut, speak, and the text lands where your cursor is. It can run Parakeet, every Whisper size and two Danish models. Get Codictate for Mac and Windows.
